Mt. Rushmore-Little Big Horn-Hotel drama!

Getting into Mt. Rushmore it was rainy and foggy.  As you will see in my "short update" blog it was a pretty rough go for us, everyone got frustrated and tired and hungry!  However, we made it to the hotel.  We had called and called and nobody would answer the phone, when we got there the front desk guy was on the phone and barely looked up to tell us he was having a computer problem.  We waited...and waited some more.  Finally he said that he could make a key and let us into the room but it was a master key so we would need to stay in the room until we were ready to go.  We elected to go grab a bite to eat in Keystone SD.  We ate at a yummy pizza place and then headed back to the hotel.

It was about 10pm(I think).  I mentioned to the guy how hard it was to find the hotel and that we had tried to call and he said, "well as you can see I have been on the phone all night with my manager to sort out the computer problem!".  Ok...so we get into the room, nice size, comfy bed.  No remote, and you could not operate the tv with the buttons on the side of the tv.  I call, guy said "I will bring one right up".  I waited and waited...yep no remote.  Oh well!

The next morning as we were leaving we mentioned to the lady at the desk that we had no remote and she advised that she would place one in the room.  Will it be there?

We drove to Mt. Rushmore.  It truly is beautiful there!   There was a bit of a line to get in but once in it was very easy.  We headed up to the monument which was amazing.  The detail is beyond what I thought it would be and so very captivating.  Pictures will be posted later.  We ate lunch in the shadows of four great men!  I learned that Ice Cream was invented by Jefferson!  I knew I liked that guy!

After that we drove to Crazy Horse monument.  It was expensive and we were a bit disappointed in it.  It is not finished and I think we have so much exposure to Native American's in OK that we expected a lot more.

We then dropped Jennie off and headed to the winery!  We stopped at a place that sold Red Ass Wine...hahahahaaa.  Then we headed to what was an awesome unplanned experience at another winery called Naked Winery!  Wow we had fun there and we left our clothes on!  We decided to be risky and try some wine, neither of us are wine drinkers.  The lady that helped us gave us six wines to try and I loved 5 out of 6!  The best part was that Cheryl said as we drove off.  "I think I like wine!"  Too bad that Oklahoma will not allow shipping of wine:(

We then headed into town. Meanwhile back at the hotel...Jennie had informed us that the remote was not in the room, also the room key didn't work again.  So she had to go down.  The lady said she would fix it and did try but just kind of left when she couldn't get it to work.  Also, someone came into the room while she was there because the desk had issued our room to someone else.  UGH

We called Jennie and asked what she would like to do for dinner and she said she would go with us so we ate at a little mexican place in Keystone.  It was good, but a bit on the slow side.

We dropped Jennie off and went back to Mt. Rushmore.  We wanted to see the lighting and got there and waited for it to start.  Now, the part honoring the presidents was very good!  The part honoring our past and present military was very good.  However, the lighting just does not do justice to the monument!  Hard to see the details I think.

Meanwhile back at the hotel...Jennie was still waiting for help with the remote.  Nobody fixed it.  We wrote down a list of our concerns and handed it in when we checked in.  The lady just looked at it and said "oh ok".  We tried very hard to work with them and be patient. It just was a huge let down!

We then went to the museum in downtown and learned more about the sculptor.  It was very nice but musty in there.

After that we headed to Little Big Horn.  We did a audio tour of the park, very nice.  Very beautiful country up here!  We then ate the best Indian Taco EVER at Custer's Trading Post!  WOW.

Now we are settled into our hotel for the night and tomorrow is YELLOWSTONE!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!!
